Blue Ribbon Winner Denise Lupton, wonderful work on your Bernina...from classroom to winner!!!....we celebrate your achievement...congratulations
don't miss the ribbon hanging on the bottom of that quilt...
"Hi Sally! I bought your book last winter and have used your hooked on feathers method on 2 full size quilts. I quilt on my Bernina 430 home sewing machine.
My sister and I also attended your Walking Borders and Pathways to Better Quilting workshops in Paducah.
I'm sending you a picture of me and one of my Hooked on Feathers quilts. I donated it to a local benefit quilt show/auction. It won judges Grand prize (90 quilts entered) As you can see, there is nothing particularly spectacular about the top. I believe it was the quilting that gave it the edge.
"Thank you.. that means a lot to me.. as we all are our own worst critic's... wow.. my quilt posted on your site... wow... thanks you for all your help.. for being my first teacher.. for everything..." Student of Hooked On Feathers
Here are some pictures of Mary Sowell's Paperweight quilt. No fabrics are repeated. I used Aurifil Crayon Variegated Thread... my favorite... on 12" blocks. You can see I started with a curl, machine quilted 4 feathers toward the center, stitch back down the seam line in-the-ditch and then completed the other side, hiding the thread knot in the ditched thread path....enjoy!
Spines were stitched first. A center design was machine quilted and the feathers radiated from there. The borders were directional from left to right. Medium gray thread on gray black fabric.
Connie Griffin says about this block in her recently finished sampler quilt, " I hadn't practiced them in awhile, I just took my time in the small areas, and I am very pleased with how they turned out." I think she did a wonderful job reaching into all those really ackward areas...nice work Connie.
This is great example of how any feather style stencil can machine quilted with the Hooked On Feathers technique.
Hooked On Feathers free-motion friendly no mark large meander. This technique can also be used used as a small fill, again unmarkeed. Watch me quilt this on the Hooked On Feathers Class CD.
Here I've used the Terry Twist as a spine and filled the area using the Hooked On Feathers stitched with the Walking Borders technique. You can find Walking Borders in From Quilt Top To Quilted Book and the feathers in the Hooked On Feathers Book and Hooked On Feathers CD with over 25 patterns like this one.
Another class example. This would make a wonderful Hooked On Feathers Border or edge-to-edge machine quilting patterns. And turing corners is so easy.
Don't for get to check out my classes at the shows.
The Hooked On Feathers become waves to gently rock the boat on this adorable baby quilt.
Pam Dransfeldt sent us her this picture using the Hooked On Feathers in a wonderfully colorful borders stitched with variegated thread.
Used the Hooked On Feathers technique to quickly fill this large 12" block. There is lots of room left for circle fills in the center area...need to go back and add some more thread!!!...are we ever done?
Don't you just love the fabric?! Used the Hooked On Feathers sprinkled through the un-stitched marked Terry Twist asymmetrical spine on a 9" block. Use the Walking Border technique for a beautiful look that is simple to machine quilt because the way the method is laid out for you it easy to understand... Hooked On Feathers Book. Both are great classes to take here in the Paducah Studio or at one of the shows.
" No words can express my appreciation for what you've shared with me and the quilters who joined us at the workshop. You're truly a fantastic teacher! We'll do this again." Sylvia, GA
"I just wanted to thank you for the excellent training. I believe that your sales knowledge and willingness to teach will be the key to the future success of machine quilters." Sue, WI
From the internet..."I don't think Sally marks. She said something once in a class that changed my life. If you make a mistake repeat it three times. It will looked planned and becomes a design element and I don't have to rip out."
