What was I thinking

It seemed like a good idea at the time....

Most of these were machine quilted when I was a newbie.
Thought they may give you a laugh and some inspiration
at the same time....

I also think it teaches that the process exceeds perfection.
And, we can be kind and forgiving to ourselves
because we can always blame it on the fabric!

What do you do with a big orange square?

The above picture shows ripples in the gray where the fabric "draws". It happens when you stitch in the opposite direction the seam was stitched during piecing or stitch in the opposite direction of the adjoining machine quilted thread path....

It is always best to stitch parallel lines in the same direction across the quilt top. Less "drawing" occurs.

Hope this helps.

This was machine quilted before the Terry Twist... notice how the short sashing starts and stops and all go the same direction. The long sashings reverse direction. The four gold bear paws were machine quilted with one continuous-line.

Hope this inspires you.

Here is a beautiful traditional cross-stitched quilt with blue dots marking the quilting pattern. This simple traditional quilting design truly compliments the cross-stitching.

Yet, those blue reference dots don't go away unless you wash them in really hot water, and what does that do to the embroidery floss? My suggestion is to tell your customer that you will not be able to hit the blue dots everytime and will machine quilt in keeping with the overall them of the quilt.

gosh that was done so long ago! imagine that on in old fashioned bedroom in a Bed & Breakfast

This is a rather large area and I wanted to create a medallion style pattern in freemotion for the sake of speed. We are looking at the back of this quilt to see how you can create a shape simply by--
not quilting it.

Chalking a diamond on the top and quilting about 1/2" on each side, created a 1" unquilted diamond-on-point area. The unquilted diamond-on-point puffed, becoming the focal point of the design while freemotion leaves filled in the rest of the irregular block shape.

If you look closely on the upper left side you will see where the thread crosses over to stitch the inner leaves. Cross over in the same place on every block makes it virtually unnoticable. Works with circles and square shapes as well. As I remember it took less than a minute to complete each large block area.

Try this technique with feathers, ferns, even loops. You finish large blocks in seconds...it even amazed me.

Spears of feathers jet out from the center gold star. Red and white nine-patch is machine quilted with the Terry Twist. The gold Ohio Star fireworks I like to think of as "Tina Turner's Wig"...you may remember if you've taken one of my Creative Classes.

Look closely in the dark blue sashing for the Terry Twist panto. To get your copy of the design go to page ??? in Pathways to Better Quilting Book or you will find a link to the pdf download in any of the Terry Twist products pages. Enjoy!

I am so excited to get this CD (Hooked On Feathers).  I have your book, and I am an avid Teardrop user on my Quilts, so the "hook" is nothing new to me.  To learn how to put it all together a lot nicer than what I have been doing with feathers, will be so nice.  I have been longarming for 3 years now, have many clients, quilt for a large guild and a Quilt Store, and would just love to amaze them all some more.  I have many "feather" book from various authors, but yours are so much more along my "alley".  I am not a by the book exact person, I love to swirl and freeform and do my own thing.
